There are many reasons a young person’s education can become disrupted or difficult.
For some, experiences at home or school have made it difficult to feel safe, connected or ready to learn.
Others may be navigating mental health challenges, changes in family circumstances, periods away from school or other experiences that have affected their education.
Sometimes, a young person simply needs something different from what school usually looks like.
At Aviva, we begin with the young person in front of us.
Known for who they are
Every young person who comes to Aviva brings their own story, strengths, experiences and needs.
Those experiences matter.
They help us understand how best to support each student.
But they don’t define who that young person is or what is possible for them.
Our approach begins with a belief in the inherent worth of every student.
That means taking the time to get to know them, understand where they are at, and create an environment where they can begin to feel safe, connected and part of a community.
A place to belong
For many students, belonging comes before learning.
Aviva learning communities are intentionally small and relational.
Students have the opportunity to know the people around them and, just as importantly, to be known themselves.
Our learning spaces are less formal than a traditional school campus, with room for learning, connection and recreation.
Each community has its own character, creating an environment where different students can find their place.
Students don’t have to become someone else to belong here.
They have space to be themselves, build relationships and begin from where they are.
Growth looks
different to everyone
For one student, a significant step might be reconnecting with learning.
For another, it might be building trust, attending more consistently, completing a qualification or beginning to imagine possibilities beyond school.
Growth can be gradual, and it isn’t always linear.
Our role is to create space for that growth; to provide quality education, strong relationships and a supportive community while walking alongside each student as they take their next steps.
Because every step matters.
Hope for what comes next
We believe a young person’s past or present circumstances do not determine the rest of their story.
That’s why hope is so important at Aviva.
It doesn’t mean knowing exactly what comes next. It means continuing to see possibility, supporting progress and believing there are still chapters to be written.
